And when she landed a performance slot on the March 3 episode of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” she decided she’d reinterpret the iconic Sade costume for her on-stage look. It was an outfit she always wanted to have. Monèt was captured by the look as a child, studying the costume any time she watched a recording of the concert her grandmother kept on video tape. Monèt’s outfit is an homage to a costume worn by singer Sade during her Love Deluxe World Tour in 1993 - a two-piece set consisting of a cropped V-neck top and ankle-length skirt with rows of shimmering stones. Her band then joins in with bass strums and legato violin notes as Monèt and dancer Randall Watson mirror each other’s spins and turns, their feet nestled under a thin layer of fog.
